Athens - Appia Capital See Private Equity Funds Target Emerging Markets

Press Release Summary: Appia Capital’s top investment analyst has said that emerging market private equity fundraising is on pace for a record this year, as $29bn (€19.6bn) was collected in the first eight months of 2007, more than 85% of the total for all of 2006.
Press Release Body: Private equity funds focused on investing in the emerging markets of Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa raised $29bn through to the end of August compared to $33.2bn for all of 2006, according to the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association, an industry body.
Appia Capital’s Harold Jenkins said: “We expect 2007 to be another record-breaking year for emerging market private equity fundraising. A number of funds held significant closes later in the summer, and several large funds are expected to close by year’s end.”
Latin American funds raised $1.4bn in the first six months of this year with the addition of two $1bn-plus closes in July.
